Sting hasn't fully broken down yet, but he's lost a step in the ring. At 62 years old , it's impressive that Sting can even remotely work a wrestling match, let alone keep up with some of today's best talent. In all honesty, casual fans might not even notice that Sting has lost a step in the ring. However, hardcore fans can tell. Nonetheless, nobody is complaining about seeing one of the best wrestlers ever still doing his thing. TNA has been the butt of many jokes during its existence.
Sure, they were never able to even slightly compete with WWE but they provided an alternative for both fans and performers. Unfortunately, though, TNA was always viewed as a small regional promotion. They aired on a national cable network, Spike TV, but they could never quite get the following they were hoping for. So in essence, Sting spent the back half of his career in the minor leagues. AEW is a whole different beast.
It's only right that Sting gets to finish his career in front of the largest wrestling audience possible. There's no denying the fact that TNA served a big purpose in the wrestling business. Surprisingly though, Sting actually made a good amount of money in TNA. While the specifics of Sting's contract with AEW haven't been fully divulged, it's been reported that he signed a multi-year deal with the company.
Because Sting will sell a lot more merchandise in AEW, like t-shirts and action figures, on top of his salary, it's safe to assume "The Icon" is bringing home more cash in AEW.
In WWE, Sting didn't manage to win any championships. Even Austin Aries would have been a great choice. He certainly deserves a push toward the top. While the Stinger is still a viable and popular wrestler, and able to draw at the gate and put on a great match, he does not deserve the match unless this is a one-time thing.
You can make the case that, in addition to the wrestlers I mentioned above, Mr. No matter what we do in life that we love to do, at the end of the day, we want to go out either on top or simply ending on a great note. Sting had a decision to make a while back after he became a free agent once again, the choices were either resign with TNA Impact Wrestling or go to a place where he has never been, WWE. Fans everywhere expected the stinger to sign with WWE to complete his iconic classic career and eventually have an historic match with the Undertaker at WrestleMania But this was not an easy choice for Sting Steve Borden.
No matter what at the end of the day you want to be comfortable, you want that place to feel like home. The sold-out Impact Zone in Orlando eagerly awaited the return of the Icon for his main event match. Sting entered the match about two minutes in, to square off with Jarrett to an enormous crowd reaction.
After firing off on Jarrett, Christian Cage tagged back in to take control of the match for the team. It would be another five minutes before he was able to hot tag out to the Icon thanks to a failed double team chair attempt from Jarret and Brown. Team Canada would then get involved to try and assist Jarret only to be on the receiving end of a Scorpion Death Drop.
